Bio:
Courtney Willis-Washington is a mathematician and educator (certified pre-k through grade 12) who loves teaching math to our youth. She transitioned from computer analyst to being an educator of over 35 years. She's been able to inspire students and help them view math as a simple solution, by teaching her “apply what you know” mindset. Her innovative approach to mathematics has a way of changing unsure math students into confident math students. She also helps students gifted in math to further excel in math and in STEM.
Inspired by her son’s interests in STEM, Courtney immersed herself in engineering activities and began to coach robotics and other STEM teams at the local, state, regional, and national levels. Many of her diverse STEM teams won national competitions and were invited to learn from NASA engineers. Most recently, Courtney’s students were given the honor to interview the daughters of the great mathematician, Katherine Johnson.
Courtney’s passion is to help all students prevail in advanced mathematics. This is done through hands-on learning and fun, project-based activities.
Courtney is a devout Christian, proud mother of 4 wonderful children, proud grandmother of 4 amazing grandchildren , and the daughter of a phenomenal mother. She enjoys spending time with her supportive family, sorors, and friends. Courtney also enjoys traveling, and playing strategy games. During game nights, her favorite gameis SCRABBLE.
